Once upon a time in the West
We spent two days in Fort Bravo “Texas Hollywood”. In the 1965 Sergio Leone Discovered, the only desert in Europe. Here he built the set for the movie “For a Few Dollars More’.
The location was better than Hollywood had to offer and much cheaper. The films became very successful and lifted the westerns to international fame.
Many more classics have been filmed there since, including the tV-series “Hercule Poirot”, with David Suchet (1992).
Around 1977, Rafa Molina, a stuntman, bought the set for (a fistful of dollars) 6,000 Dollars to improve his job opportunities if the set was to be used for filming. In the early 1980s, he started charging visitors money to tour the set. Mock shoot-outs and barroom brawls were later added, and one of the buildings was converted into a full saloon to sell beer. It is now known as Fort Bravo. (Wikipedia)
With our neighbours we enjoyed the shows and shootouts, saloon girls dancing the can-can and had our pictures taken in western style.
At night a complete silence, no lights, sounds of cars, and planes. Super start of our trip.
