Relaxing in Bergerac

A quiet day in Bergerac

After nearly three weeks visiting family and friends in Amsterdam and Tournon we decided to have a few days of just doing nothing, just relaxing.

We and the dogs had a good walk along the lovely riverside of the Dordogne. Billy had the time of his life, racing up and down and miscalculating the green stuff in the river. Oeps, it wasn’t grass but a field of water plants.

Tonight we decided to have dinner in the historic old town of Bergerac. On recommendation of the camping owner we went to the small restaurant, Le Vin’Quatre. The restaurant serves only local food and was really super.

It was just a short walk, but I underestimated the distance and we thought, ok, we’ll call a taxi, but no taxi to be found. We asked a man who was just closing his restaurant if he could call us a taxi, but no luck. No more taxis tonight.

He asked us where we wanted to go. The camping La Perouse we answered. No worries he said in French, I live nearby and I’ll take you there.

So tomorrow we are having lunch at the restaurant of this very nice man.

This was a really super day and evening.

Na bijna drie weken familie en vrienden te hebben bezocht in Amsterdam en Tournon besloten we een paar dagen niets te doen, gewoon te ontspannen. Wij en de honden hebben een heerlijke wandeling gemaakt langs de prachtige rivieroever van de Dordogne. Billy had de tijd van zijn leven, hij rende op en neer, maar berekende het groene spul in de rivier verkeerd. Het was geen gras, maar een veld met waterplanten.

Vanavond besloten we om te dineren in het historische oude centrum van Bergerac. Op aanraden van de campingeigenaar zijn we naar het kleine restaurant Le Vin’Quatre gegaan. Het restaurant serveert alleen lokale gerechten en was echt super.

Het was maar een klein stukje lopen dacht ik, maar ik had de afstand onderschat. We dachten: oké, we bellen wel een taxi, maar, er was geen taxi te vinden. We vroegen een man die net zijn restaurant sloot of hij ons een taxi kon bellen, maar zonder succes.

Hij vroeg ons waar we heen wilden. De camping La Perouse zeiden we. Geen zorgen, zei hij in het Frans, ik woon in de buurt en ik breng jullie er wel heen.

Dus morgen gaan we lunchen in het restaurant van deze hele aardige man.

Dit was echt een super dag en avond.

Después de casi tres semanas visitando a familiares y amigos en Ámsterdam y Tournon, decidimos pasar unos días sin hacer nada, simplemente relajándonos. Nosotros y los perros dimos un buen paseo por la hermosa orilla del río Dordoña. Billy se lo pasó en grande, corriendo arriba y abajo y calculando mal las cosas verdes del río. No era hierba sino un campo de plantas acuáticas.

Esta noche decidimos cenar en el casco histórico de Bergerac. Por recomendación del propietario del camping fuimos al pequeño restaurante Le Vin'Quatre. El restaurante sólo sirve comida local y fue realmente genial.

Fue solo una caminata corta, pero subestimé la distancia y pensamos: "Está bien, llamaremos a un taxi, pero no encontramos ningún taxi". Le preguntamos a un señor que estaba cerrando su restaurante si podía llamarnos un taxi, pero no hubo suerte.

Nos preguntó adónde queríamos ir. El camping La Perouse respondimos. No te preocupes, dijo en francés, vivo cerca y te llevaré allí.

Mañana almorzaremos en el restaurante de este hombre tan agradable.

Fue un día y una noche realmente fantásticos.
