We arrived in Narracoorte late in the evening after we had seen the spectacular Blue Lake. We were lucky that we were there at the right time of the day because it was a spectacular blue.
After setting up camp Irene rang us up to tell us she was picking us up the next morning at about 9.
Right from the moment we met it seemed as if we had been friends for a long time, thank you Irene for giving us that feeling.
Iren said there was going to be a slight change of plans because Jessica, Irene's granddaughter, had to go back to uni that morning. So off we went, about a 30 minute drive from Irene,s place to Binham. We had a lovely mornin' cuppa and then we went on our way.
First to the little town of Binham, that used to be a containment area for Victorian sheep, a post office, school and a few other buildings, not more than 5 as I remember and that was it. The drought is terrible this year the worst in European Australian history. Dry and empty paddocks, some with potato weeds on them. If the drought won't kill the live stock then the poisonous potato weed will kill them, like Judy explaned to us.
We saw flocks of sheep with just one or two Alpacca sheep in with them which are used as gaurdian sheep to keep the foxes out of the fields. Some fields are irrigated, but the farmers need to buy the rights to irrigate. The farmers have a hard time in this country.
The trip took us down to Horsham where we had a lovely lunch at The Royal Hotel. We went on our way again and were heading off to the Grampians. Irene suggested that Ruud could do some driving if he wanted to, well he did and we crossed the Grampians and Halls Gap. Me sitting in the back looking down deep gullies, he did a good job but I was glad that I wasn't driving, gee, they were rugged. High and very small and winding roads but the view from the top was magificant. We had lovley dinner in an Old Hosham Roadhouse.
The next day, Vryday, we were a little bit slow at geting started. First the cows had to be fed, two of them were pregnant, so Irene worried about them. They haddn't been hand fed the day before so that's what we did. Irene driving the Ute, me sitting in the back. For European city folkes like us, quite an experience. In the afternoon we had to get on the road again. We started of in Narracoorte at the Little Jum Buk wool shop and bought some lovely warm slippers for the cold Dutch winters, and then off to visit David, Irene's nephew who makes lovely woodcraft out of red gum.
In Lucindale we had a 'Beer with Duncan', and ended the day at Irene's son's place and met his family.
Comming back at the farm and having a beer on the porch Irene pulled us over to stay another day which we gladly accepted. I could have stayed there forever it was so nice and peaceful but this was of course not possible.
The next day we went to the beaches and you kwow, they sell 'gents' there, so line up girls and see whats up for sale.
So Irene, Judy, John and the whole family we want to thank you all for letting us see the real Aussie life and John we'll gladly come back again and eat some of that crayfish with you and the family at Kingston. G'day to ya all, hope to see ye soon.

Joop Mul:
So you had to have a beer with Duncan
I hope you drank in moderation and
you never ever ever got rollin' drunk
You drank in the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere was great.
I wonder if Colin, Kevin, Patrick and Robert were there as well? :)
Good fun!
Next trip through Aus., you'll be doing click go the shears boys, click, click, click. :)
