I'll start in English this time, translation in Dutch will follow.
Just to get you updated, we have nearly left Victoria and are off to the Blue Lake in Mt. Gambier. Next stop will be Narracoorte to see the friend of Zita Looze and if we have time, to visit the Narracoorte caves. Horsham is nearby and if possible we'll have a short stop there because that is also a little town where I used to live.
For you Hans, Petrie has a foto in her 50 book of us standing by an Ampol tankstation with mum and dad and you, next to the old Humber.
Now the route we have followed up to this point.
Melbourne was an experience, it has grown into one of the great cities of the world. As a woman you'll get crazy about all the shops. Even a truckload of dollars would't have been enough, so we just walked and gawked and I bought nothing, much to Ruud's delight.
We went to the immigration museum and that was the beginning of a rush search of our passage to Australia in 1957. From the Imm. Museum to the National Archives where the files were already waiting for us, then to the National Library to see the newspapers of that time because I remembered that there had been some foto's taken of us arriving in Australia. We weren,t succesful there but we did find a book about the camp Bonnegilla where a lot of immigrants stayed.
Had a tour of the harbour and at night a Valentines dinner while watching little Fairy Pinguins come ashore for their night's sleep.
Left Melbourne to go visit Ballarat, the richest gold fields in the world, discoverd in 1850. Saw the laser show, "Blood on the Southern Cross" the only uprising against Brittish rule. It was spectacular.
The old town of Ballarat has been rebuilt and was a journey back in time. See the foto's.
Leaving Ballarat we did the Great Ocean Road, the lowest coastal highway in the world. Antartica is the next coast but there are no roads there.
Driving through rain forrests, rugged coastlines, dry country and koalas and now we are in a little fishing village called Port Fairy. Squawcking cockatoos woke us up this morning, hundrends of them it seemed.

Hey guys!
Thanks for the update and the great pictures....that coast line looks sublime! I have a friend who lives in Melbourne (the garden city) and she wouldn't live anywhere else for all the money in the world! Get's a little bit cold winter time but the summer's are long and hot, with everyone loving the outdoor life....seems like the way to go! Speak soon!!!! Take care of yourselves!
